Abstract:People reclaimed more and more land from the sea in a disorderly and unsystematic condition in the Pearl River Delta in the Qing Dynasty. The land increased in the area but the flood situation was worsened in the Pearl River system at the same time. The government Authorities of the Guangdong Province had to run the important water conservancy projects by taking urgent measures. The land--pool structure was a new kind of project to prevent flood in the low-lying land in Nanhai County and Shunde County. The three kinds of agricultural projects had close relationship with the flood in the Pearl River Delta and still have important influence on the sustainable development of agriculture in the area.
