　　Influences of occlusal vertical rising on condylar cartilage remodeling in adolescent rats

　　【Abstract】  AIM： To investigate the influences of occlusal vertical rising on condylar cartilage remodeling in adolescent rats.  METHODS： Forty fiveweekold male SpragueDawley  rats were  randomly divided into experimental group  (n=20) and control group  (n=20). Animals in experimental group were fitted with an upper posterior bite rising splints on their upper molars. The animals of experimental group, together with their matched controls, were sacrificed 7, 14 , 21  and 28 d after the appliance insertion  (n=5/group each time). Sections were cut from right condyles and stained with HE，and the thickness of condylar cartilage was measured by using a computerassisted image analysis system. RESULTS： In comparison with control group, 7 and 14 d after the appliance insertion, the condyle cartilage thickness decreased significantly in the experimental group;  28 d after the appliance insertion, the  thickness in the posterior region increased significantly in the experimental group(P<0.05).
